Hunger Mountain Timber Frames

Salem, NY

This project started in 1999. So far it has involved a Gothic Revival
Carriage House based on the architecture of Andrew Jackson Downing and a
small woodshed. Other structures will follow.

Design work by Merrall MacNeille (for contact info email: darrahs (at) sover.net).

Here we see details from the Carriage House: a frame of eastern white
pine with white oak sills set on a standard deck over a full basement.

The first floor (above the basement) offers parking for three vehicles
and room for a small shop. The second floor (to be finished in plaster)
will provide living space for a caretaker.

Hunger Mountain cut the frame on site and also made the upper and lower large
doors and all window sills and integral casings/jambs machined out of
3x12 dried white pine.

This property already features a building from 1791 and a barn which was
renovated into a state of the art library/gym/meeting center. (see
"Garage: Reinventing the Place We Park", Taunton Press).
